A parent and an older child reading a book together at home

The Skillful Reader Grades 3 to 8

Help Your Child Become a Stronger, More Confident Reader.

Parents should not have to guess what their reader needs next. The Skillful Reader helps identify where your child needs support, offers focused reading practice, records how they respond, and uses that information to guide what comes next.

A parent or guardian creates the account. No credit card needed to sign up.

See How It Works

The real question

More Reading Isn't Always the Same as Better Reading.

When reading feels hard, more minutes alone may not tell you what is getting in the way. Children need practice chosen for a specific need, support when they get stuck, and a way to see how they respond.

How it works

A clearer path from a reading need to the next step.

  1. 01 / Diagnose

    Find a starting point

A starting check looks at reading skills to help locate needs. It is not a clinical diagnosis.

  2. 02 / Prescribe

    Choose a focus

The app selects a skill to practice and gives a reason for that choice.

  3. 03 / Practice

    Work on that skill

Your child works with word work and a story suited to their reading needs.

  4. 04 / Measure

    Notice the response

Answers and help used are recorded. An adult needs to listen for verified timed reading measures.

  5. 05 / Adapt

    Adjust what comes next

Recorded responses can guide later practice and review through explainable rules.

  6. 06 / Explain

    Make sense of it together

Parents can see the focus, its reason, what the available evidence suggests, and a next step.

Focused practice

A focused reading routine, designed for about 15 minutes.

A session brings together targeted word work, vocabulary, an age-respectful story, questions about its meaning, and review. Children can use help when needed. Fifteen minutes is a design target, not a promised timeline for improvement.

  1. 01Targeted word work
  2. 02Vocabulary
  3. 03An age-respectful story
  4. 04Questions about meaning
  5. 05Review

Built for grades 3 to 8

Reading Support That Doesn't Feel Like Kindergarten.

An older reader can need help with foundational skills without needing babyish stories. The experience keeps school grade and reading placement separate, with topics intended to respect the reader's age.

What comes next

The Practice Changes as the Reader Changes.

The app uses a starting check, responses to practice, and later review to choose a skill to work on. A missed word can lead to help in the moment. Recorded results can change a later session's focus.

What should this reader do next?

A clear reason for the next focus, not an unexplained score or a claim of proven results.

For parents

Know What Your Child Is Working On and Why.

The parent view puts the current skill and its reason beside what has been recorded: practice results, help used, and reading checks when an adult has listened. It also names what the available information cannot show yet and offers one next step.

Why we are different

Beyond Minutes, Points, and Streaks.

Time spent reading can show a habit. It cannot, on its own, show what a child can do independently or what to practice next. We put the skill focus, the response to practice, and the limits of the evidence first.
